In an unfortunate turn of events, it appears that all government space agencies worldwide were caught off guard, seemingly on an extended coffee break, completely unaware that Earth was directly in the path of a group of asteroids. As these asteroids breach our atmosphere, the responsibility of saving humanity falls upon the players.
To avert the impending impacts, everyone must collaborate, constructing and launching rockets, developing technology to gain an advantage, and repurposing unusable resources. The objective is clear: destroy all the meteors within five minutes, or else face defeat. However, the time constraint is not the only challenge; players are initially prohibited from communicating with each other.
If so, we invite you to embark on an exciting journey with Spinmatic’s captivating game, Meteoroid. This unique game will not only allow you to witness the trajectory of a meteorite but also provide an opportunity to make money along the way. Prepare to be enchanted by this extraordinary game right from the start.
In Meteoroid, you have the freedom to determine the size of your bet, ranging from 0.10 to 20 Euros. Once the meteorite is launched into space, a real-time multiplier is displayed, and you can withdraw your money at any moment. The maximum potential win in the Meteoroid game is an astonishing x1000 times your initial stake! The game is available on both PC and mobile platforms, ensuring that you can enjoy it wherever you are.
Begin by selecting your desired betting size. The multiplier starts at x1 and continues to rise. You have the option to stop the game and collect your earnings at any time. Additionally, your wager can be further increased by using the line feature. However, be cautious, as the game can crash unpredictably, resulting in the loss of your wager.
Autoplay functionality is also available in Meteoroid. Simply set a base bet to initiate autoplay and configure the auto cash amount and maximum bet to determine when autoplay should stop. During autoplay, you can choose between two distinct options: increasing the stake on a win or increasing the stake on a loss. It’s important to note that setting a fixed wager and enabling auto cash out is mandatory, while the other options are optional.
With the auto cash out feature, you can automatically withdraw your bets when the chosen multiplier is reached or if any connection is lost. This ensures convenience and peace of mind while playing the game. Get ready to embark on an exhilarating cosmic adventure with Meteoroid and experience the thrill of witnessing meteorites while potentially earning substantial rewards.
The suspense intensifies as players fire their rockets without knowing the precise value of the targeted meteor. The artwork in the game features a captivating cartoony style that complements the overall lightheartedness of the game, despite the imminent doom.
Sand timers are a nostalgic inclusion in board games, and while I cannot vouch for their quality, they seem to serve their purpose adequately. Nevertheless, there are a few minor concerns regarding the iconography and the size of the game box. Some of the iconography used on the meteor, tech, and bonus/penalty cards can be confusing. Even after several playthroughs, players may find themselves consulting the rule book to ensure a full understanding of each card’s function. Additionally, the box seems disproportionately large for its contents. Considering the game only consists of sand timers and cards, the excess space feels wasteful.
During game setup, the meteor cards are shuffled and the required number of cards is placed face down on the table. One player assumes the role of the timekeeper, responsible for managing the altitude zones cards and sand timers throughout the game. Each sand timer represents one minute of real-time. Finally, players receive cards from the resource deck, which comprises a mix of energy, rocket, and technology cards that they can utilize to secure victory.
The retrofitting feature allows players to salvage unusable resources, enabling them to draw new cards when they find themselves in a bind.
The number of launch sites corresponds to the number of players in the game. While each player is responsible for their assigned launch site, the cooperative nature of the game shines through as anyone can initiate or assist in completing a project on the communal table. There are three types of projects that players can undertake as they strive to save the world.
To utilize new advancements, players can place a technology card on the table. If the team successfully gathers the required energy cards, they unlock the corresponding technology. These technological advancements offer various benefits, such as enabling communication between players, granting extra resource cards, or revealing the true sizes of all meteor cards.
Through retrofitting, players can strategically gather the necessary sets of four energy or rocket cards. By doing so, they are rewarded by drawing at least one new card into each player’s hand, expanding their options and potential moves.
In the rocket phase, players begin by placing a rocket card at a designated launching site. If they possess all the necessary energy cards, the rocket can be launched towards a chosen meteor. Rockets always inflict damage as indicated on the card. When a meteor is struck for the first time, the player flips the card to determine if their rocket successfully destroys it. If their hit matches the required value, the meteor is obliterated. However, if the players fall short of the required value, no impact occurs. An intriguing twist arises when the damage inflicted surpasses the size of the meteor. Although the meteor is destroyed, the excessive force propels the remaining meteors closer to Earth, compelling an immediate move to the next altitude zone, regulated by the timekeeper.
It’s important to remember that all of these actions must be accomplished without verbal communication. Players can employ gestures, symbols, or any other means to convey their intentions. The timers commence once players are prepared, and the game concludes when all meteors have been eradicated or when they collide with Earth, leading to the destruction of humanity.
Spinmatic’s latest game, Crash, is entering your orbit, offering players numerous opportunities to win astronomical prizes of up to x1,000. With its high-speed and straightforward format, this cosmic game is an absolute hit, guaranteeing wins!
In Crash, players have control over their bets and can decide when to cash out while they observe the Meteoroid’s increasing trajectory. The objective is to claim the cash before the crash occurs, with the betting amount multiplied by the final number. It’s a test of mental agility in this celestial phenomenon!
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned player, everyone can triumph in this game, and practice truly does lead to perfection. As experience grows, so does confidence, and with confidence comes the opportunity for massive wins! Invite players to witness their own never-ending Big Bang as they are showered with meteoric prizes.
One of the elements that amplifies the chaotic fun in the game is the concealed values and traits of the meteor cards. Deciding to launch that first rocket at a meteor card evokes a heightened sense of anxiety. Do you possess sufficient power, perhaps even too much? What secret traits does this particular meteor hold? The game’s highs and lows are derived from the act of launching rockets. Players experience sheer joy when they successfully eliminate a meteor with a single shot, yet they also face the dread of wasting valuable time due to excessive rocket power.
The hidden aspect of the meteor cards extends to their traits as well. Approximately half of the meteors harbor special rules that may necessitate specific energy types, cause them to split into smaller meteors, or even destroy other meteors of the same size nearby. However, players remain unaware of these traits until they flip the card, further intensifying the game’s suspense and unpredictability.
In terms of the second crucial aspect of a well-designed real-time game, simplicity, Meteor proves to be easily accessible. Players swiftly grasp the game’s premise and adapt to its fundamental rules. Nevertheless, the simplicity factor is somewhat compromised by the iconography featured on the cards. While the energy and rocket cards are straightforward to comprehend, thanks to their visual representation of rocket power and the corresponding energy cards required, the same level of clarity is not maintained throughout all the card iconography.
The challenge lies in the game’s attempt to adopt a minimalist approach for both the meteor and technology cards, which, in my opinion, results in unclear representations through the pictures. Questions like “What power does this grant?” and “What does this meteor do?” will frequently arise during gameplay. Personally, I would have preferred a concise text description on the cards explaining their effects. Even if you provide explanations before starting the game, players may still have inquiries, causing interruptions and detracting from the intense and suspenseful experience. While not a game-breaking issue, it seems like something that could have been addressed. Fortunately, the simplicity of the rest of the game compensates for any shortcomings with these cards.
I found the process to be less than elegant and somewhat cumbersome. Balancing the task of preventing the world from destruction while also keeping track of the timers proved challenging. I discovered that it works best when other players assist with the timers, taking turns managing them during different segments. This allows the timekeeper to enjoy the game more and helps maintain the five-minute schedule. Perhaps I am spoiled by the more streamlined approaches used in other games, but I believe there could have been a better solution, such as utilizing a phone or tablet application.
Each playthrough offers a unique experience as the meteors and resource cards vary. Additional cards, such as boss meteors with special abilities that activate upon placement or destruction, add further challenges for the players. Power cards are also available, providing advantages such as extra launch sites, card draw abilities, or enhanced rocket power. These become particularly valuable when facing off against boss meteors. Furthermore, for those who have become adept at destroying meteors, challenge cards can be introduced to significantly increase the game’s difficulty by imposing limitations or introducing new problems to solve. All these components work harmoniously together, introducing fresh elements and ensuring the game remains engaging with each playthrough.
Meteor proved to be a highly enjoyable game for me, perfectly suited as a filler to kickstart a gaming night. It strikes a great balance between simplicity and chaos, which is exactly what I seek in a real-time board game. Each playthrough offers a unique experience, and the inclusion of additional cards with new powers, boss meteors, and fresh challenges ensures even seasoned players find something new to enjoy.
The absence of verbal communication not only serves as an intriguing mechanic but also leads to entertaining moments as you strive to save the world. However, some of the iconography on the cards and less-than-perfect real-time elements occasionally disrupt the immersive nature of the game. Fortunately, these moments are infrequent, but they prevent the game from reaching true greatness. Nonetheless, Meteor is a game I’ll happily keep in my collection for those times when I feel the urge to save the world in no time at all. If you’re searching for a real-time game to add to your collection, be sure to consider Meteor.
